Eco-Friendly Household Product Reviews

  • Biokleen Oxygen Bleach Plus
This comes in powdered form and even though you use relatively little, I find it powerful. Although I don't use it in every load, it certainly brigthens my whites and removes all residual smells. In paste form (mix with a little water) it works with even more intensity on fabric and carpet even. Love it!
  • Ecover Dishwashing Liquid
While the liquid is pleasing in texture and smell. Within less than a month, 1/3 of the bottle or more is gone. This product claims that " one squeeze" will clean a sink full of dishes, but the bottle top combined with the thinness of the fluid making a squeeze feel more like a 2 tablespoons. It is true there aren't as many bubbles. The container is recycbleable, but it is still plastic. Use with caution and care. Could be more effective and find value in a different container, but who wants to do that?

Eco-Friendly Personal Care Product Reviews

  • Avalon Organics Hand and Body Lotion
I chose the Lemon scent enriched with Beta Glucan. This product indicates that it is "safe, effective, pro-organic, no artifical color, synthetic fragrance or parabens" etc. The scent is overwhelming and deliciously lemony. It is light, almost too light for my moisture starved hands after a winter of abuse. Rating: Smell is heavenly, light, but not substantial.

Hope you are feeling well now! Got your darling Christmas card. Happy holidays.

Martha Lurie

I am skipping Saturday and Sunday because I was sick with an infection in the back of my mouth and strep, so I literally ate nothing on Saturday. Sunday was a little better, but still only had 1 slice of pizza and a piece of Molly's B-day cake.
12/21/09
3 slices plain thin crust pizza
carrots
hot chocolate
Didn't eat much today either, but my throat is still bothering me and nothing seems to feel good going down. I will try and consume more tomorrow.

Cookbooks I Use

  • Jeff Cox: The Organic Cook's Bible: How to Select and Cook the Best Ingredients on the Market
This book isn't just about vegetables. It contains fruits, grains and dairy as well. I use it as a handy reference with the bonus of having great recipes. (***)
  • From the Editors of Cook's Illustrated: The Best 30 Minute Recipe
Again, I like to check out books from the library and there were a surprising number of recipes that I loved in this book, but not enough to buy another enormous recipe book. (****)
  • Jessica Seinfeld: Deceptively Delicious
I checked this book out from the library to try it out and I ended up using it so much, I had to go out and make the purchase! I like the addition of vegetable purees to her recipes, but I alter all of them to add more nutritional value. My kids eat this stuff!! (***)
  • Editors of Cooks Illustrated Magazine: Baking Illustrated: A Best Recipe Classic
This is one of the greatest baking cookbooks I have ever read. I love Cooks Ill. because they described WHY they chose their ingredients. (*****)
